Marcia MacDonald - You Will be Sorely Missed

Marcia MacDonald, friend of many, passed away this last week. Many of you may remember that Marcia was our manager at Passionflower from August 2005 until December 2006. And what a time it was. Marcia was beautiful, brilliant, generous, funny (extremely), and fearless when it came to creativity. She was larger than life, a force of nature, the kind of person who lit up a room and made everyone at ease. Jeweler extra-ordinaire, teacher, excellent cookie maker and fabulous dresser. If most of us attempted to wear stripes, plaids, and polka dots together we would look like demented clowns. Marcia looked uber chic...She delighted in life and the delight was infectious. She died after a two year battle with ovarian cancer. It sounds cliched but the world is less bright without her. I will remember Marcia for so many things but the one I keep coming back to is a dark and rainy night when we were driving back from a gift show in Seattle and she said to me, "the heart is a muscle too and like all muscles it needs to be exercised.." I think she was gently telling me to get out of my head and into my heart a little more. And since that time I have often thought of Marcia and contemplated the ways of the heart. Like so many, Marcia touched me in ways she did not even know.

  1. I just called your store to ask permission to share the photos you've posted of Marcia's work. I didn't realize you had done this recent post. Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated it. You probably knew her better than a lot of us fellow jeweler's that knew her from shows and wished she lived in our home towns.

We will miss her. Bless you, Marcia.

  2. Birdland - Sadly I only have a few more photos of Marcia from the trunk show , some of which I will post and send to you. But I don't have so many photos of her amazing jewelry. The ones in the post were all ones she sent me and, as you know, they are just the tiniest sliver of her amazing oevre. You jeweler folk, you were her people......and I think it's amazing the ways that you rallied around her....it is hard to think of all the jewelry that will never be made.

  3. Merrily perusing and enjoying the blogs, blooms, art and warmth of Passionflower came to a screeching halt when I got to this post. Miss Marcia?! Shocked and saddened. I loved her down to earth, no nonsense approach to things and her convivial nature. She was such a pleasure to work and play with. Gifted, lovely lady you will be greatly missed.

  4. Lisa - No kidding screeching halt...I'm still in shock. Thanks for your kind words. Marcia's life was short but wide. There's going to be a memorial on Sunday Sept 12 at 3 p.m. at Opus V11.....maybe you can make it? If not I would love to know how you're doing. There's never been anyone before or since that could make a bridal bouquet quite like you.
    Good to hear from you.
