Homage a Susan Goodwin

The Susan Goodwin Trunk Show we had last month went something like this. Susan, who is now living in California, flew into town. She was all dressed in white and white glasses too.

She charmed my charming staff.

And she laid down some very beautiful jewelry. Once again, I was in awe of just how awesome a designer she is. And how well she knows women and what makes us beautiful.
And it is endlessly inspiring to see how Susan continues to create new. This collection had this super clean edge (kind of all white feeling) to it with vermeil, moonstone, disc pearls and clear rock crystal. (working on getting you some photos)

We spent a half a day or so basking in beauty.

And then it was over......which is always a little sad and wistful but satisfying for me.

Susan Goodwin at Passionflower

Just in case you missed hearing about it. Next Friday May 6th at the store. The show we've all been waiting for. And since a certain unnamed famous musician was just in the store yesterday buying up all kinds of Susan Goodwin jewelry, the trunk show will be a great time for us to replenish our stock as well.

It's not that we're not busy and don't have lots to do here at Passionflower. It's just that we all need to sometimes take a break and do something silly, don't we? Witness Lindsey's jewelry styling of our traveling bunny. Just in time for Easter.

Find Beautiful Jewelry in Your Everyday Life

This charming little earring clip from Japanese design team fift definitely falls into the "Why didn't I think of this?" category. Change your jewelry depending on your mood and what's blooming in the yard. Love it!

Holiday Bling Jewelry

We fell in love pretty fast and pretty hard with this jewelry line called Gypsy, as we are always on the look out for that high holiday bling jewelry piece. (Remember the time before bling was a word? I do.)
Then we saw this big pomegranate pendant (below) and found out the line was made in Turkey.....and all of a sudden we were re-enacting the underworld of winter and eating pomegranate seeds with Persephone.....well that was pretty much it and next thing we knew we were putting in a big old order.

And some of their jewelry can be seen in the movie The Other Boleyn Girl....and we think that's pretty cool too.

But if that's all a little too much bling for you....never fear... because we've got some beautiful understated pieces too......

Like this great vermeil necklace from Brooklyn jewelry design house Swallow......they call it their mother/daughter piece. Lots more to see in the jewelry cases. Find a perfect piece for yourself to wear this holiday season or a gift for a loved one.
We pretty much can't think of anything we'd like to do more at Passionflower than try on jewelry with you. Yes it's the adult version of playing dress up.

Cast Metal Woodpecker Skulls

Remember this beauty?...... cast vermeil woodpecker skull on pearl chain?

Then there were two - silver and gold.

And they had a whole bunch of little baby woodpecker skulls
who are now sporting silk ribbon cords and happily ensconced in one
You know those Hallmark cards that play music when you open them?
Do you think I could find someone to figure out how we could do that so that when
you opened this drawer you would hear the sound of lots of hungry baby birds
chirping away? Part of our quest to provide you with an ever expanding sensory experience
at Passionflower. Life is full of surprises.

Showered with Jewels from Susan Goodwin

The beautiful, talented, and generous Susan Goodwin paid us a May Day visit.

It was a whirlwind -
a veritable buffet of delicious gems.

There was lots of turquoise.......

Here's a composite necklace with an old clock key and I think that's a bullet casing that has been filled with turquoise.

Susan's work has an extreme delicacy mixed with a lot of strength.

We cannot thank Susan enough although we suspect she does these shows because she gets to see lots of different women wearing her jewelry.....

These trunk shows are like her little jewelry laboratory.
Thanks everyone for coming. It was fun playing dress up with you! :)

Susan Goodwin Jewelry Comes to Passionflower

We couldn't be more pleased, honored, and excited to welcome our longtime friend & amazing jeweler/artist from Seattle Susan Goodwin, who's coming here to do a trunk show on May Day!!!!

(that's the 1st of May)

We've been carrying her work for a long time and she never ceases to amaze us......At some point you think, "Well how many ways can you wrap pearls and gemstones?"...in Susan's case the possibilities seem endless.....And she's not being clever. She's genuinely considering, not only what looks good as a piece of jewelry, but what looks good on a living, breathing woman......

She is that rare combination of talent and acumen......that's my way of saying she's not just a great artist, she's a great business person too. And as a retailer that's meaningful.
I can count on her not only to get me the product, but to continue producing innovative and beautiful work.

Here's some shots from her Pools of Light Collection......If you know someone getting married, you might suggest Pools of Light for wedding jewelry or bridesmaids gifts.

She'll be bringin' it to the store Saturday afternoon from 2 -5......
Plus there will be loads of one of a kind pieces using pearls, gemstones, and other goodies...If
it's anything like the last two shows she's done here you can count on a feast of color and stone and light.

How did I get so lucky? This is a world class trunk show not to be missed.

Click here to see Susan's website.

And feel free to send us any photos of you or friends wearing her jewelry.

Visiting Jeweler Susan Goodwin

I always love it when my jewelry reps Thomas & Greta bring me samples of Susan Goodwin to order - like in this picture.

But it's even more fun to visit her studio which I fondly think of as "Susan's Garden of Earthly Delights". Becky & I recently had the pleasure of a visit when we were in Seattle.

It is a working studio and there are bowls of gems and pearls and findings all organized -

And shells and glassware for containers.

Collections of optometrist's tools.

And of course the most beautiful collections of pearls.

Everything has a quality of clarity and brilliance.

And my favorite part of her studio is this wall of women's portraits. They look down upon her big work table that seats four. I imagine Susan is making jewelry for all these types of women - As she is working she's having conversations with each of them.

Then she served us a little cup of Mariage Freres Marco Polo tea -
and put on some Miles Davis music.

And we looked at a book of Alexander Calder jewelry.
They're having a Calder show at the Seattle Art Museum through April this year. I really want to see it.

Susan gave me a little lesson in how pounding metal makes it change shape and move.
So now whenever I see these earrings of Susan's, they will always be inextricably linked with the mobiles of Alexander Calder.
