One of a Kind Textiles from Oaxaca

I finally decided to cut loose and put all the textiles I brought back from Mexico out on the floor.  Round and square cushion covers, some handwoven, hand embroidered, huipiles (a kind of traditional shirt), and a runner or two. So for those textile lovers out there amongst you, it's worth a visit.  The hand crafts and needle arts are alive and well in Central America.

A Winter Visitor

Perhaps my favorite Poppy & Moe T shirt ever....their new four color design on a long sleeve shirt...And because it's so fun to unveil new designs, we're having a party First Friday, Dec 2nd.  See all their new goodies, find something fun,  meet Sabrina (the Poppy of Poppy & Moe) and generally help us celebrate the coming warmth of the Holiday Season.
And just a little note, we usually have our big holiday party this evening but because there is a (yes this is true) a championship football game involving the Oregon Ducks, the general feeling amongst my fellow merchants was that we ought to postpone the party for a week ....which we at Passionflower thought was just dandy because now we get to have two holiday parties!
So if you can't make it on the 2nd, come revel with us on the 9th.  Open to 7 both evenings.

Johnny Was

Have I told you what we've been doing upstairs in our attic space a the store?  I don't believe I have because, well, it's kind of a soft, a very soft opening of our new clothing section Passion Fashion.  Because, well because,  I'm still figuring out exactly what we're doing up there.  But one thing I know, is that we're devoting it to clothes you can't find in Eugene, to lines we really think are extra ordinary.  And one of those is Johnny Was - the label alone gives you a clue of what's to come.  Romantic, bohemian clothes with fine details.  Pieces that stand alone or layer up...Pieces that make getting dressed fun....Come have some fun with us.

Kind of Nutty

Passionflower's homage to the acorn.....o ye from which the mighty oaks grow....

German made (that's code for well made), naturally tanned leather, these small carrying bags can be clipped to a bag, to a belt or to whatever strikes your fancy....they come in two sizes and lots of great colors.
Completely random, but the guy who played the Wiz in Wicked came in and bought a bunch of them.
There is something a little munchkin land about them.

The Learning Curve

Decided since we're doing the upstairs passion fashion thing I needed to do something I've never done before and go to LA and do a little shopping. It was super fun and a little frustrating...like when I found this fabu little moire coat and was told it doesn't come in this color any more (word). I would look through lots of racks and folks would tell me the deadline is past. "Well what's it still doing on your salesfloor then?". Once I see something I like I can get a little bit into the "I want what I want and nothing's going to stop me from getting it" thing. So while you won't see this coat on our racks in September, I did go a little crazy and you will see some funky, fun, and fabulous clothes in the store come early September.

Poppy & Moe Making Us Happy

Loving that Poppy & Moe have landed in our upstairs attic space. It's our little store within a store. It's quiet and peaceful up there, plus there's a real dressing room and a comfy couch. Come on in and check out some of their wares like this great v neck owl tee seen above.

What to Wear for the Rapture

I was thinking this all white Indian cotton nightgown might be just right....

P.S. I know it's not right, small minded even, to make fun of people's whose beliefs differ from our own....I just couldn't help myself.

Poppy & Moe at Passionflower

Yes it really does happen. Hip, local clothing designer in small town sells from their etsy shop. Big city, slick magazine called Nylon sees work. Likes what they see. Features work on same page as Stella McCartney!!!

This design duo called Poppy & Moe has been on our radar long before Nylon saw them and we're going to start carrying their work at Passionflower in our upstairs loft!!! Sabrina Ridge and Kelsie McGee form this dynamic duo. They screenprint all their original images onto really fun, fashion forward pieces right here in Eugene. They're all about taking the screenprinted tee to the next level and when you actually touch and feel their products you'll understand what I'm talking about. The hand is wonderful. The designs have that nature inspired, rugged, northwest Eugene kind of vibe - but they're bohemian and femme at the same time. Totally Passionflower right? Come meet Sabrina & Kelsie during First Friday Artwalk on Friday June 3rd from 5 -8.
They'll be unveiling some new designs and you can find yourself something fun to wear for the summer months.. and click here to see more of their work.

The Goddess Tara in Pink Stripes

Contemplating what she wants to wear from the jewelry case....hmmm...lots to choose from.

Found something....

Off to work.

And may we just say she's looking pretty good wearing our Yala pink striped bamboo shirt and feather earrings....Thanks to Tara and the rest of my amazing staff for modeling our stuff and making everything look so good day after day.

Echo Design Wool & Cashmere Gloves

Bbbrrrr....it's getting cold outside....and since I do venture out upon occassion, it's nice to have these great gloves from Echo Design....

They're soft not scratchy and I love the ruffle. Plus so many fun colors....

So come and get em while they're here. Oh (silly me)...I forgot to mention they have some fancy new textile technology that allows you to text while you're wearing them....
and several skeptical customers have proven that they really do work.

Potter Mary Briggs at Passionflower this October

Her work invokes old world European pastoral landscapes.....bucolic images of sheep and cows and goats and deer in field and meadow....that seem curiously relevant, like something we are trying to remember today..

Mary transformed the upstairs space at Passionflower with her beautiful pottery -

There's a very rustic and peaceful vibe.

Modern folk art at it's best.........

Pottery for the people.

And meditations upon the natural world.......

The show will be up through the 21st of October....

To see more about our field trip to Mary's studio click here.....

Our thanks to Mary

Who also gets the prize for coolest outfit on First Friday......

Summer Clothing

Because Lindsey says I should.......link to other places I discover in net surfing world....Here is a beautiful collaboration between Iben Hoej who is a Danish fashion designer who commissioned British paper artist Su Blackwell to create her papercutouts as context for the clothes. I like independent artists supporting other artists. And I like the fact that, if you like Iben Hoej's clothing, pretty much the closest place you can find it to the states is in Greenland.

Another Marcia MacDonald Memory

Here's some things Marcia could do that I never, in a million years, could do. Like I could never wear these pants. Somehow though, they were just right for her. And another thing I was remembering today is how she would refer to our male customers as "big guy".....(believe me, I could never do this, at least with a straight face....)
It sounded something like this: To the UPS driver - "Hey Big Guy", to Judge Wayne Allen -"Thanks Big Guy", to the nervous man who just bought his wife a piece of jewelry -
"Good Job, Big Guy".....Marcia just knew how to make people feel good. And that my friends is a gift.

Could It Really be Time for the Summer Clothing?

Could it really be so? Will the rain really end? Will the sun shine? Is summer here? We are cautiously optimistic......And the change of seasons always call for a change of clothing as well.
We're stocked with some super fun goodies like this classic, white, Indian cotton nightgown.
We call her our summer angel.

And if you're looking for a little more color these lightweight robes are fun.

Finally ready to leave the house? Here's Lindsey modeling some of our great bamboo loungewear.....Super soft, super lightweight, super green, and check this out - bamboo will actually protect you from the sun's rays - it has a UV 50 rating and it also wicks moisture.....sign me up.
This is also lightweight, easy to pack travel clothing. Come in and check out our new styles and colors.....Sizes up to xl.

Plus we have a great selection of silk scarves ......these nubby silk ones like you see in the picture above are a really nice for a little wrap at a summer wedding....and they come in some beautiful hues, all hand dyed, no two alike.

And then if you want to cut loose with your inner cowgirl.....there's always the sunblock extraordinaire, the cowboy hat. Looking good with our new gaucho pants.......wait, am I a cowgirl from Oregon or a senora on the Argentinian steppes? I cannot decide.
