Hippity Hop, Easter Is on It's Way
Having the best time going through old photos.(looking for the perfect, elusive, Easter Bonnet Contest photo)...I think this was Lindsey and Tara one day dressing up the bunny in all kinds of jewelry. Yes, you think we're a retail store, but there's an element of kindergarten fantasy too!

The Year of the Sheep
Happy Chinese New Year during this the year of the sheep (or the ram or the goat) which my Chinese friends tell me is all about community because sheep are gentle animals that like to hang together in groups. So we're hoping for lots of community building (code for parties) at Passionflower this year.
We're starting with a party for Hatch Oregon on First Friday in March. Come find out all about this innovative way you can be a good sheep and invest in your community!
Then First Friday in April we're having our big Passionflower Turns 21 /Easter Bash Blowout Extravaganza (start working on that Easter Bonnet now!)
Come be part of our flock!

Something Beautiful
Just a little photo of a beautiful piece of jewelry - copper enamel coral pendant with a necklace of the teensiest, tiniest little pearls we've ever seen. Something beautiful. And handmade. That is all.

Jewelry at Passionflower
We are primping our jewelry cases at the store.
And polishing everything so it's bright and sparkly -
And finding turquoise a lovely antidote to all that Valentine's pink
(not that we don't love pink, because we love pink, just not all pink,
all the time)!
May we all have a little moment of turquoise in our lives.

Navone Jewelry at Passionflower
You know there's a lot of independent jewelry makers out there in the
world. And people want to sell it to me all the time at Passionflower.
And I say no a lot. There's a lot of reasons jewelry doesn't work for the store. Sometimes it seems too much like something we already have and
sometimes it's just wrong for us and sometimes the price point is just
way too high and sometimes I've spent all my allocated dollars and
sometimes I'm just too busy to give it the time it deserves. And then,
every now and then, there's a line that really stands out. Hasn't
happened in a while until Laurel said to me, "You might want to check
out my friend Rachel Dean's jewelry. She lives in Bend and I think it
would be a good fit for us." "Um, yes OK, I will". And then Rachel
sent me a lot of photos (all priced) and I could tell, not only did she
have something original and fabulous to sell, she also had it together
as a business person. And I need both those things to make it work here
at Passionflower. So I said YES Please!
And Rachel came over from Bend
and we picked a really fun selection. And now she's a house staple.
Her work definitely has a relaxed, boho vibe but add good design and
color sense and it really sings. It's mostly brass, beadwork, and gemstones but she adds thread and leather sometimes too. And since Rachel seems like the
energizer bunny when it comes to production, we thought it would be
really fun to have a trunk show so you can see the huge, vast array of
her work. Please join us Thursday November 20th. We're open until 7 and
will be serving a little bubbly and playing some lovely tunes.
Or should partying on a Thursday evening prove too much for you, there's always our online jewelry store!

The One and Only Navone Jewelry
I'm working on doing some promo pieces for some fall trunk shows we have
happening. Which basically means I'm looking for cool images. Found
this one from our amazing new jeweler Rachel Dean with Navone Jewelry in
Bend. I feel so lucky to have her work at the store. It's a great fit
and it doesn't duplicate work we already have. In short, she's an
original! Stay tuned for a Navone trunk show in November. More
beautiful jewelry than you can imagine.
And while we're talking jewelry, do you think jewelry can bring you supernatural powers? Well if we lived in the middle ages or studied ayurveda we might. And I have done neither of those things but I do think wearing jewelry is magical. I wore one of Rachel's rings all through my Oaxaca trip and I swear it made me more creatively inclined.

I think the Rings are my Favorite
Sometimes a girl gets lucky. Like when your fabulous new employee tells you she has a friend who is a jeweler in Bend and said friend does actually send pics of lots and lots and lots of beautiful jewelry and it is all priced in a professional way and it's kind of like nothing you've seen before....but it is kind of like things you've seen before so it is that perfect combination of the familiar and unfamiliar.
The hammered metal makes me think of Ancient Greece and the beading and tassles and wirework just take it to some other place. Like maybe some beachside bar on an island in the Aegean.
Can you tell I'm a little excited about this new jewelery line Navone that we're carrying?
And it looks pretty fabulous with these African beaded pieces from our friend on Vashon Island Sandrhyme.
Love carrying so much local jewelry. There's a lot of talent out there.

Susan Goodwin Jewelry Comes to Town
The ever talented Susan Goodwin will be joining us for a trunk show next Friday at 2 and her work will be up until Saturday afternoon.
Word on the street is that Susan has radically changed her display and I had a little sneak peek when I visited her in Carlton. It's ephemeral and incorporates photographs. Susan not just a great jeweler.
She's a talented artist who has spent most of her adult life living off the fruits of what she creates with her hands. I have so much admiration for people who do that. Just stick to their one thing and ride with it as far and long as they can - constantly re-inventing themselves and, at the same time, staying true to who they are.
I always find something lovely for myself. And hope you come and find something lovely too.

Susan Goodwin Jewelry at Passionflower
You might want to put this on your calendar. Our Susan Goodwin trunk show starts the day after Thanksgiving and goes through Saturday afternoon. We always like that we have what it takes in Eugene to show her the love. And we definitely couldn't do it without you.
As always , it will be spectacular. Susan will be here Friday evening. She's a wonderfully generous person (not to mention supremely talented) who has a knack for helping you find something just for you.
We are so looking forward to it.

The Mother of all Mothers
How outrageous is this piece of jewelry I spied at the Pyrrha booth at the New York Now show? It's halfway between amazing necklace and breastplate. Let's just say it was so outrageous, they didn't even have a price on it. In the meantime, I bought a whole slew of lovely Pyrrha miniature pendants which i though would make lovely layering pieces.

Holiday Jewelry Bling at Passionflower
I am suffering from world's most annoying headcold. And so, because I can barely put two sentences together, thought I would leave you with a little photo montage of some of our holiday jewelry from some of our favorite vendors.
Gorgeous cloisonne pendant from Swallow.
One of a kind Susan Goodwin.
Gypsy makes this dramatic pearl turqouise lariat.
And longtime vendor Exstasia with a handcarved mammoth ivory acorn on a carnelian chain.
Like Becky says, we're glamourous nature girls, because after we come home from that lovely trek in the woods, we want to take a hot bath and put on some velvet and bling and go celebrate the season ((As soon as the headcold goes away!)

The ever fascinating, always inspiring jeweler Susan Goodwin shows her work at the store Thursday the 29th of November. That's the Thursday after Thanksgiving. You can come over to the store in the afternoon from 4-7 and Susan will be here. She'll take over our large middle table with color coded gems, one of a kind pieces and her own very special magic. We'll play some Pink Martini and have a little bubbly, learn about some new gemstones, try on everything, and just have some fun.
